Tutorial: Adding a New Section to a Page

The content on each page of your website is divided up into sections. This aids in how the blocks of images, text, and other elements are formatted and in turn creates the overall structure of each page. If you’d like to add more content to a page, one way to do so is by adding a new section.

To add a new section:

  • In edit mode, hover your mouse over the page and you’ll see Add Section in blue.

  • Click Add Section. You will now see a slew of options, including Add a blank section, Saved sections, and a list of content categories below those. You now have three choices: either start with a completely blank slate, make use of a saved section, or use a Squarespace template.

  • Blank section: For when you’re feeling particularly ambitious and free.

  • Saved sections: Every section I’ve designed on your site has been saved and can be found here. You can then make use of my designs as templates for new content, all you have to do is switch out the existing images/text/whathaveyou for new ones. You can also change the color theme for the section within the Color tab of the Edit Section pop-up to further distinguish it from the original version.

  • Squarespace templates: There are lots of pre-made templates, and while I don’t recommend using them, you may find a few that work for what you’re seeking with some site updates.

Regardless of how you go about adding a new section:

  • Don’t forget to click Save.

  • Always check how everything looks in Mobile! Watch this tutorial for advice.
